Choosing the wrong vehicle for your car hire holiday could result in a disaster and here at Auto Europe we want to make sure that your car hire experience is a pleasant one and hopefully something you will want to do with us again!
Here is a quick guide to help you on your way:
Mini (MBMN) – This class is usually only available as a 2 door. Suitable for 1 large or 2 medium cases only. Some examples of this class are Fiat Panda, Ford Ka and Renault Twingo.
Economy (ECMN) – Slightly bigger than the Mini. Most destinations offer 2 and 4 door options. Depending on the model they will be suitable for 3 or 4 passengers with 1 large or 2 medium sized suitcases. Examples of this class are Peugeot 107, Renault Clio and Ford Fiesta.
Compact (CDMR) – Ideal for 2 people who like a bit of room, but is also suitable for up to 4 people. It is available in most destinations with 2 or 4 doors. The boot will usually hold 1 large and 1 medium sized suitcase. Examples of this class are Peugeot 307, Ford Focus and Opel Astra.
Mid-Size (IDMR) – A basic family sized car. It is usually available with either 2 or 4 door. Luggage capacity is on average 1 large and 2 small suitcases. They will seat 5 passengers. Examples of this class are Peugeot 407, Volvo S40 and Opel Vectra.
Standard (SDMR) – A standard sized family car, large enough to fit 3 booster seats in the back. They will seat 5 passengers comfortably with room for 2 large and 2 small suitcases. Examples of this class are Citroen C5, VW Passat and Ford Mondeo.
Full Size (FDMR) – A roomy family car which gives 5 passengers that little bit more space. Luggage space is generally smaller as a result of the additional space in the car, so will probably accommodate only 3 medium sized suitcases. Available only as a 4 door. Examples of this class are Mercedes C180, Volvo C70 and Skoda Octavia.
Premium (PDMR) – These are our prestigious full size cars for that little bit of luxury. They are available as 2 or 4 door. These cars will usually accommodate 5 adults and 3 medium sized suitcases. Examples of this class are Audi A5, Citroen C6 and Mercedes E Class.
Luxury (LDMR) – Ideal for that special occasion. The cars in this class are not a standard size so passenger and luggage space will depend on the model you choose. Examples of cars in this class are Audi Q7, Mercedes SL class and Porsche 911 convertible.
Estate Cars (CWMR/IWMR/FWMR/SWMR/LWMR): With the exception of Mini and Economy all classes offer estate models. These are ideal for holidays where you have equipment (ie tents, skis, golf clubs) to transport as well as people. There may be less choice of models available in this category depending on your destination. They are all 4 door models. Examples of this category are Citroen C5 Estate, Opel Astra Estate and BMW 318 Estate.
Don’t forget to check if you need a car hire with manual or automatic transmission. Also ask yourself if you will need air conditioning and any other accessories, child seats, ski racks?
